The Tashkent pillar of Jamshid Gaipov

The greatest in Uzbekistan a wooden carved column will soon take the place in the Central showroom of Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan.

Its founder - hereditary woodcarver Jamshid Gaipov.

The representative of the seventh generation of a dynasty of the Tashkent masters «ёгоч уймакори» - woodcarvers, Jamshid Gaipov in the thirty years became not simply the continuer of family tradition, but also the founder of the school of art woodcarving.

Woodcarving since ancient times was and remains till now one of traditional and most widespread kinds of national arts and crafts. Carved cases (каламдон) and book-holders (лавха), little tables and decorative dishes, elements of a decor of premises and a column - not to consider all products decorated of intricate patterns which leave a tree under a cutter of masters.

Traditions of the Tashkent school of woodcarving developed centuries. They are kept in the creativity by modern masters O.Fajzullaev, A.Azlarov, G.Juldashev, S.Rahmatullaeva, H.Adylov, A.Abdurahmanov, A.Ashirov, B.Ganiev, Z.Isamuhamedov.

In woodcarving art had distribution two ways: background - with a plainly-relief pattern and a profound background, and also backgroundless - with trihedral pattern. Works of Tashkent masters differ a combination of background woodcarving to a relief pattern. Such way of a carving demands the big technical skill and professional perfection. Patterns in which vegetative and geometrical ornamental motives islimi are used, gulli girih and other, Tashkent masters cut out, following the developed tradition, at two-three levels.

In a fringing apply all the ways long registrations. Distinctive feature of the Tashkent school of woodcarving is an application of relief surfaces, and also a covering its varnish.

Jamshid Gaipov in perfection has seized technics of the Tashkent school absorbed by it, literally, with milk of mother. Jamshids mother Muharram Ibragimova, unique in Uzbekistan and in the Central Asia the woman, awarded ranks of the national artist.

She is a skillful woodcarver, the continuer of business of the father, Tashkent master Nigmat Ibragimov, - has transferred to the son all secrets of ancient craft which has developed in the long-term work.

Pay attention to this fragment of a carved door, all levels of a carving here are looked through. The young master dreams of that the bases which have received in its creativity of family traditions of woodcarving, have found the further development in its individual handwriting. Working on inspiration, it deepens carved patterns to four levels, processing a tree literally singing in his hands. Creates new patterns, creatively uses modern materials, expanding functionality of carved products (screens, ceiling panels) at the expense of illumination.

Crafts of young Usto Jamshid Gaipova decorate both official establishments, and private collections. Ornated by the difficult patterns, inlaid with nacreous elements or pastes, cast brass ornaments, they are really magnificent.

Jamshid is not limited only to own creativity. He has created two big workshops by a principle "Usto - shogird" ("the Master - the pupil") in which trains pupils in woodcarving art. In each of them units, and tens carvers trained in it work not. Has opened усто and molding shop to make brass art inserts for dressing of carved doors, handles. So Z.Gaipov promotes not only to preservation and development of antiquated traditions, but that is important presently, provides with work youth which goes on change to old masters.

He doesn't pursue success, the success itself finds it. Creative searches, persistence, diligence and aspiration to work over themselves have brought to it a recognition. The young artist heads work of the Central showroom of Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan. Also continues to realize the dreams.

One of them - creation of the big carved column, which Jamshid has decided to establish in the Central showroom AA Uzbekistan.

At the long nights he didn't know rest while the plan has not developed in imagination. Work lasted not one month.

Separate sides of a hollow column were cut out, decorated by nacreous inserts and brass elements.

The length of a column will reach 15 meters, diameter - ones and a half.

It will be established on the carved support standing on an octahedron, and topped by a dome-shaped detail.

The column is almost ready. Together with group of veb-journalists which the carver has invited in one of the workshops, has had the luck to see this pillar. The giant reclines on wadded pillows in a house court yard where Usto Jamshid Gaipov has grown. The column promises to become new miracle of Tashkent.
